Restored Leawood Pump – steam cylinder and valve gear. Probably 1979/80.

Steam cylinder end of Beam showing parallel motion.– steam cylinder and valve gear. Probably 1979/80.

The 50” steam cylinder of the Leawood Pump with the engine at full stroke. Valves are back-right.

The actual plunger pump at full stroke. Just about to shove 3 ½ tons of water up to the canal. The 2 gauges in front were added by ourselves to show suction and pressure during the pumping cycle.

The results of one pumping stroke – 3 ½ tons of water (approx 750 galls) enter the canal. To prevent surging in the pipe we left the stop planks in permanently and the results were very obvious.
